Federal, State, and Local
Federal Program:
Jacob K. Javits Educational program - This program is to carry out a coordinated program of scientifically based research, demonstration projects, innovative strategies, and similar activities designed to build and enhance the ability of elementary and secondary schools to meet the special education needs of gifted and talented students.
State Programs:
The Foundation School Program - The state distributes funds from the available school fund to local school districts through the two-tiered program. This program serves to provide local districts with the proper allotment per identified student, not to exceed five percent of their total population. These fund are used to train personnel and provide the students' services.
Local Programs:
QUEST (Quality Utilization and Enrichment of Student Talents.) QUEST program is designed to meet the needs of identified gifted students who have demonstrated above-average ability in the two areas of giftedness as defined by the Texas State Plan for the gifted.
PACE (Plan of Action for Curriculum Enrichment) - PACE program is a special program for K-5 students who show exceptional ability. This could be in one or more academic areas as defined by the Texas State Plan for the gifted.
Pathways to Excellence - This program is aligned with the district's instructional efforts to the state-mandated curriculum, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
